Virgin Australia’s New Economy X and the Naming is Hilarious

Virgin Australia Economy X seat

Virgin Australia is going to have a new seat called the Economy X(L). I added the ‘L’ in because I thought it would describe the seat better than just – X.

X(L) stands for eXtra Legroom because, truth be told and you might have guessed it, the new seats have more legroom. X passengers will enjoy an eXtra 3 inches of legroom and a “preferred” overhead compartment storage.

Virgin aims to deploy the new X seats in all the 75 B737 by end May. The new ‘X’ seats are going to located in the economy cabin on rows 3 to 5 and at the emergency exits. These new seats will be used on their domestic routes first.

X passengers will also be able to enjoy priority boarding and security screening. Virgin Australia’s Economy Space+ will be replaced by the new Economy X seats on both long and short haul international flights.

On long-haul flights, X passengers will also get to a guaranteed first meal choice and a premium noise-cancelling headset. Economy X will be free for Velocity Platinum frequent flyers on domestic and short-haul international flights.

So there you go, now we have a new product and the idea seems to be a hybrid between the budget carrier way of selling their seats – upfront, emergency exit – and a premium economy product that offers more legroom.

Let’s welcome the Economy X(L).
