Qantas took over the Melbourne – Tokyo route from Jetstar in February this year. And Japan Airlines will start their Tokyo – Melbourne flight come September 2 after nearly a 10 year hiatus!
The daily JAL flight leaves Melbourne at 1205 midnight and arrives in Tokyo at 0905 am on a B787 Dreamliner. However, the return journey leaves Tokyo at 1030 in the morning and arrives in Melbourne at 9.25 pm. Morning flight means a wasted night at the hotel and you probably have to stay nearer to the airport.
There’s an on-going promotion right now on JAL. You get double miles during the promotion period. Also, both Qantas and JAL belong to the Oneworld alliance. Hence mileage can be accrued or used on both carriers.
The last i check, they still have cheap tickets for those who are keen to visit Tokyo in September.
