Qantas Offers Complimentary Status Extensions

This must be the best piece of news to come out this week in the midst of all the chaos due to the current Coronavirus outbreak globally. Qantas has just sent out emails to eligible members advising them that their current status will automatically extended for another 12-months. That’s another full year of benefits even if you do not step foot on one plane for the rest of this year.

I must say that this is a very generous offer that was totally unexpected by many because I would have thought that they would offer some bonus status credits or came up with a lower requalification table of some sort. For example, Emirates has made it easier to requalify for status for reducing their requalification criteria and Cathay Pacific is giving bonus status points to their members. Both still require you to fly! To the best of my knowledge, it is Singapore Airlines that has not too long ago announced that they will be offering another year of Elite benefits to their Gold Krisflyer members.

Nothing needs to be done, all eligible members will see their Qantas app updated with their new expiration date by 9th April 2020 and receive their physical membership card in the mail in due course.

There is also mention that members will be able to earn Status Credits through several promotions with their ground partners. I guess that just means that I might be able to earn credits by shopping at Woolworths or filling up my tank at BP. This is definitely something I am looking forward to!

Thank you Qantas!

Flight Review: CX439 Airbus 321NEO New Business Class ICN-HKG

Flew Cathay Pacific's new business class on their A321Neo (adorable "mini racoon" nickname?). Huge upgrade from their older domestic seats! The wider, comfy seats impressed me. But the star was the recline. Unlike some airlines (think budget carriers), it wasn't just a footrest and lean back. This seat reclined like a rocking chair, distributing weight evenly and giving great back support – perfect for shorter flights!
