I Lost It At Singapore Airlines Latest Safety Video

Have you seen the latest Singapore Airlines’ safety video?

I am all for airlines coming up with creative ways to capture their passengers attention for that crucial 5-minutes prior to take off. I still cannot stop laughing thinking of Mr Bean in the latest British Airways video but somehow, I cringe when I watch this SQ video.

Why?!

Firstly, there is absolutely NO creativity at all. Watch carefully and you will realise that it is almost identical to Qantas’ last two safety videos. It’s great that an airline is showcasing their home country’s sights but what has a jogging track got to do with being a national pride? Did they really have to use that pathetic kids’ pool for the scene where the child’s dad put on his life vest? Why did they not choose to use the infinity pool at the rooftop of Marina Bay Sands? Oh, what about that part where they were putting on the oxygen masks only to spray paint on the wall? I thought vandalism was illegal in Singapore where they would cane anyone for doing that. Why did they not use a more creative venue – maybe the National Art Gallery or even a Peranakan Gallery to showcase their colourful artifacts? Better still, they could have used one of their country’s National Day Parade fly-past ideas! At least Qantas chose to use a drawing in the heart of the country’s desert to highlight their emergency exits.

The background music and monotonous tone of the Singapore Girl did not help too. I can only sum this video up in one word – LAME! Sorry, try harder, Singapore Airlines!

Here are some of the constructive comments I gathered from on Youtube and some of them – I concur.

This is from Qantas.
