Jet Skiers Nearly Knocked Down By Carnival Cruise Ship

It may seem like a scene out of a James Bond movie but two women from Florida got thrown out of their jet ski into the path of an oncoming cruise ship – except the fact is that they were not trying to stop the cruise ship.

Skylar Penpasuglia, 19, and Allison Garrett, 20, who were enjoying a spring break in Florida, was on their jet ski when they flipped and fell into the water at Port Canaveral harbour last Saturday, Fox news reported.

Carnival’s cruise ship, Magic, was making its way out of the port when the women drifted into the path of the ocean liner.

The captain of the ship, Doug Brown, described the incident as,

“in extremely close proximity to the bow of the ship now bearing down on their position”

and

“I was limited in how far I could I could manoeuvre out of the way”.

Fortunately, Captain Brown ‘caught’ them falling into the water and quickly alerted a patrol boat nearby for rescue. It was reported that Carnival Magic were just a few metres from the rescue boat before being able to yank both women out of the water.

Watch the dramatic video captured by a Carnival Cruise passenger during the daring rescue as the footage shows the two women, Penpasuglia and Garrett, came within seconds of being hit by — or dragged under — the ship.

One of the passenger could be heard in the footage, asking: “Did we hit the jet ski?”. Several other passengers in the footage said they believed that the boat did indeed strike their overturned jet ski.
