BREAKING NEWS! Alaska Airlines has finally confirmed that they will be joining OneWorld. They are expected to be admitted as full member come Summer 2021.
Whilst rumours have been swirling about their intention since a few years back, this is extremely welcome news to the many frequent flyers of the alliance especially with the imminent departure of LATAM in a few months’ time.
Whilst Alaska may not necessarily have the largest network in the USA, they have consistently an excellent level of customer service hence winning recognition from JD Power for 12 consecutive years!
Going forward, it will certainly make travelling to Alaska and around the west coast a lot easier and rewarding thanks to Alaska’s home base in Seattle.
The most exciting part of this announcement is that not only will they be joining OneWorld but Alaska has signed an agreement with American to initiate a very close partnership which will allow members to almost immediately start to have reciprocal benefits. For example, members will have access to each others’ lounges with immediate effect, and so is the ability to redeem on each others flights.
In a few months’ time, even before full admission, members of American and Alaska will have reciprocal earning rights! Stay tuned!
