If you’re a Priority Pass or DragonPass member with a few hours to spare during a layover at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, it’s worth considering an unconventional lounge experience. Instead of staying airside, head through arrival immigration and make your way to the Sphere Lounge at the Sama-Sama Hotel. It’s one of the more unusual lounge options because it isn’t located inside the terminal at all, but within the airport hotel adjacent to the main terminal.
Getting there is part of the experience. After clearing immigration, simply take the complimentary buggy ride from the terminal to the Sama-Sama Hotel lobby. The journey only takes a couple of minutes, but it feels like you’ve escaped the bustle of the airport entirely. Once inside the hotel, the lounge offers a much calmer, more relaxed atmosphere than the typical airport lounge, making it an appealing option if you have enough time before your next flight.

Rather than a buffet, the lounge offers an à la carte dining concept. Priority Pass and DragonPass guests can order two food items and three drinks per person from the menu, making for a more enjoyable meal than the standard self-serve offerings found in many airport lounges. The menu isn’t extensive, but it includes a mix of local favourites and international dishes, and having freshly prepared food is a welcome change from the buffet fare found in many airport lounges.

One of the biggest advantages is the sense of space. Unlike many crowded airport lounges, the hotel setting creates a more peaceful environment, and you don’t constantly hear boarding announcements or the noise of passing passengers. If your layover is long enough, it can feel like a proper break rather than just another stop between flights.

Of course, this option isn’t for everyone. You’ll need enough time to clear immigration, travel to the hotel, and then return through security and departure immigration before your next flight. For shorter connections, the lounges inside the terminal are far more practical. But if you have three or four hours to spare and don’t mind the extra formalities, the Sphere Lounge offers a refreshing change of pace and a unique way to make the most of a long layover at KLIA.
