Hotel Review: Sari Pacific Autograph Collection, Jakarta

Date:

Sari Pacific Jakarta is one of those hotels that has been part of the city’s landscape for decades, offering an interesting mix of old Jakarta character and modern hotel comfort. As a Platinum Marriott Bonvoy members, we were curious to see how this established property would measure up following its rebranding and renovation. Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay, largely thanks to the excellent staff, freshly renovated rooms and convenient location, although some temporary facility closures affected the experience.

The hotel opened in the 1970s as Hotel Sari Pacific, later becoming Sari Pan Pacific Jakarta before returning to the Sari Pacific name in 2018. In November 2022, it joined Marriott International’s Autograph Collection, a brand known for distinctive hotels with individual identities, becoming the first property in Jakarta under the collection. Today, this large five-star hotel has around 430 rooms and occupies a prime position on Jalan MH Thamrin, in the heart of central Jakarta, close to major shopping centres, offices and the MRT around Bundaran HI.

We checked in on a busy weekend, and the hotel was clearly experiencing plenty of activity. Our first room was a Grand Deluxe Room, which we were told was towards the rear of the hotel and therefore quieter. This proved to be a good choice, as the room felt peaceful despite the busy atmosphere elsewhere. The renovation was very fresh, with clean, contemporary interiors that made the room feel modern and well presented. It was not particularly large, but it was comfortable enough for the first part of our stay. The overall impression was of a well-refreshed room that prioritised comfort and practicality rather than excessive space.

For the second half of our stay, we moved to an Executive Terrace Room, which felt noticeably more spacious than the Grand Deluxe. The additional sitting area, with its sofa and coffee table, gave us more room to relax without being confined to the bed area. The outdoor terrace was another welcome feature, adding a little extra space and a different feel to the room. It was a more comfortable option for the remainder of our stay, particularly when spending time in the room between outings. The Grand Deluxe had been perfectly adequate, but we appreciated the extra space and terrace in the Executive Terrace Room. If you prefer a room with more room to unwind, this would be our pick.

The staff were a highlight throughout our stay. Service was consistently warm, professional and attentive, from the front desk to the lounge team. Even during a busy weekend, we felt well looked after, and the staff’s willingness to help made a positive difference to the overall experience.

There was, however, a caveat for guests expecting the full executive-level experience. The Executive Lounge was closed during our visit, so its services were being provided through the Lobby Lounge instead. Afternoon tea and evening cocktails were available, and although the arrangement lacked the dedicated atmosphere of a proper executive lounge, it worked reasonably well. Afternoon tea provided a pleasant break, while the evening service offered drinks and enough food for a quick dinner.

Breakfast was another unusual aspect of the stay. With the main buffet restaurant, Fiesta, closed for renovation, breakfast was served in one of the hotel’s ballrooms. It felt strange eating breakfast in a large event space rather than a dedicated restaurant, particularly in a five-star hotel. Nevertheless, the selection was good, with sufficient variety to start the day well.

The swimming pool was also closed during our stay, with guests directed to The Hermitage, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, Jakarta, by shuttle if they wanted to swim. We did not make the trip, although the photos of the alternative pool looked inviting. Still, having to travel to another hotel to enjoy a swim was an inconvenience, and certainly less appealing than having a pool available on-site.

Overall, Sari Pacific Jakarta is a large five-star hotel with an excellent central location, an interesting history and a fresh, contemporary feel following its renovation. The Grand Deluxe was comfortable and quiet, while the Executive Terrace offered a more spacious stay thanks to its additional sitting area and outdoor terrace. The temporary closures and alternative breakfast, lounge and pool arrangements were not ideal, but the excellent staff went a long way towards compensating for these shortcomings. As Platinum Marriott Bonvoy members, we appreciated the attentive service and the convenience of the executive-level benefits, even if the experience was not quite as complete as it could have been. We would happily consider returning once the restaurant and swimming pool are fully operational.
